Family Treat - Holiday Strawberry Cream Cheese Mitten Danish

Ingredients

  • 1 8oz Container of Cream Cheese (room temperature)
  • 2 Sheets Puff Pastry (room temperature)
  • 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 3 tbsp Heavy Cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 Cup Strawberry Preserves
  • Pinch if Salt
  • 1 Egg Well-Beaten
  • Flour for dusting
  • Cookie cutter (I chose a mitten because it was large enough to stuff)
  • Cookie sheets
  • Family Treat Ingredients

How to

  1. Preheat oven to 350 and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Then, start on the filling. With the room temperature cream cheese, add it to a mixer and blend at medium speed for a few minutes until smooth.
  3. Next, add vanilla, salt, cream and powdered sugar. Mix for about 2 minutes on medium until smooth.
  4. Then, transfer to a piping bag or zip-lock and cut off the end for piping.
  5. Flatten out the puff pasty on a floured surface and roll out as needed.
  6. Cut out mittens out of both sheets of puff pastry. Make sure you have an even number at the end.
  7. For half of your mitten cut outs, cut out hearts. I free-handed this since I didn’t have a heart the right size but cookie cutters are easiest.
  8. Transfer the mittens without hearts to the cookie sheet and brush the beaten egg on all the edges of the dough. This will act as glue for the top mitten.
  9. Place the mittens with their cutouts on top of the non-cut out pieces to create frames/borders.
  10. Next, pipe cream cheese into the center of each heart. You’ll want a generous amount.
  11. Finally, add a bit of preserves over top of the cream cheese mix.
  12. Brush the tops with the rest of the egg wash and put in the oven.
  13. Cook for about 18 minutes or until slightly brown on top.
  14. Allow to cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes. Store in airtight container for up to 3 days.
